Everything you need to write about PrivateGoat: descriptions you can copy, the facts, images and how to reach the maker.

PrivateGoat is a Mac app that turns meetings into Jira tickets without uploading the audio. It records Zoom, Teams or Meet with no bot, transcribes on the Mac, drafts tickets you approve, keeps a local Jira cache, and gives coding agents the context over local MCP. Free, with no subscription.

150 words

PrivateGoat is a native Mac app for engineering teams that work in Jira. It records calls in Zoom, Teams, Google Meet or the browser from the Mac’s own sound and the microphone, so no bot joins the meeting. Whisper transcribes on the Mac and a local model writes the summary and the action items; the meeting audio never leaves the computer.

From there, one pipeline: recording, transcript, summary, tickets. The action items become an epic with its stories and subtasks in Jira, but only when the user sends them. PrivateGoat keeps a local copy of the user’s Jira projects, so search is instant and works offline, and a built-in MCP server lets Claude Code, Codex and other agents read meetings, tickets and past agent sessions locally.

PrivateGoat is made by Thomas Wiesner, a solo developer in Austria. It is free, with no subscription.

Key features.

  • Records Zoom, Teams and Meet from the Mac’s sound and your mic. No bot joins the call.
  • Transcribed on the Mac with Whisper; the meeting audio never leaves it.
  • Live transcript, language detection (even mid-meeting) and live translation into English.
  • A summary first, then action items, written by a local model.
  • Recording → transcript → summary → Jira tickets as epic › story › subtask. You approve every step.
  • Your Jira cached on the Mac: instant search, even offline. ⌃⌥J, a few letters, ⌃C copies the ticket.
  • A local MCP server: Claude Code, Codex and other agents read your meetings, tickets and to-dos; they can only draft to-dos for you to send.
  • Search everything, including your Claude Code conversations, with the index on the Mac.
  • Chats: every Claude Code and Codex conversation on the Mac in one place, searchable as you type, read there once you allow it.
  • Jira is optional: without it, PrivateGoat is a meeting recorder and nothing Jira-shaped appears.
  • Speaker names read from the call window on the Mac, and a People page of everyone across meetings.
  • An optional vault keeps what you choose encrypted on this Mac: recordings, voices, transcripts, summaries. Touch ID unlocks it; 24 recovery words and a small decrypt tool open it without the app.
  • A Timeline of the day: meetings, agent sessions and git commits, with a short digest.
  • ⌃⌥D dictation into any app, transcribed on the Mac.
  • No analytics, no tracking. Keys in the Keychain, opened with Touch ID.
  • A small goat lives on your desktop. It salutes when you click it.

Story angles.

  • A meeting recorder that never uploads

Built for companies where a cloud recorder is not an option: the call is recorded, transcribed and summarized on the Mac, and nothing joins the call.

  • Jira: four steps and three page loads, or three keys

Looking up a ticket in the Jira web app takes four steps and three page loads. With the local cache it is ⌃⌥J, a few letters, ⌃C.

  • A note-taker that minds your memory

Before a local model loads, PrivateGoat checks it fits in memory; if not, it names the apps holding the memory and starts by itself once there is room.

  • Which Claude Code session was it?

Search everything finds the Claude Code conversation where you discussed something, newest first, with the line highlighted. The index stays on the Mac.

  • Coding agents that know the meeting

Claude Code or Codex read your meetings and your Jira cache over a local MCP server that has no network access, and can only draft to-dos for you to send.

  • A solo developer in Austria

Made by one developer in Austria, where a cloud recorder often needs the works council’s agreement. In German: PrivateGoat und der Betriebsrat.
