The app
Keyboard shortcuts
Five global shortcuts, each one changeable or switchable off, plus the fixed keys inside the app.
Five actions work from any app, without PrivateGoat being in front. All five are on by default, each can be changed by clicking it and pressing the new keys, and each can be switched off. Inside the app there is a second, fixed set of menu shortcuts.
Global shortcuts
| Action | Default | Can be changed |
|---|---|---|
| Toggle Dictation | ⌃⌥D | Yes, or switched off |
| Open PrivateGoat | ⌃⌥M | Yes, or switched off |
| Start or stop meeting | ⌃⌥R | Yes, or switched off |
| Jira lookup (only with Jira) | ⌃⌥J | Yes, or switched off |
| Quick Find anywhere | ⌃⌥K | Yes, or switched off |
Restore Defaults puts all five back. The dictation and meeting shortcuts also appear in the Capture menu and the status menu, and ⌃⌥M is the one to reach for when no window is open.

Settings
| Setting | Where | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Global shortcuts | Settings → General → Global shortcuts | One row per action, an enable switch, and Restore Defaults |
What is stored
| Item | Where |

One preference per action (globalShortcut.<action>) plus its enabled flag | App preferences |
A legacy quickFindAnywhere key | Read for compatibility with older versions |
The chords are registered with macOS as hot keys at launch — not a background event tap.
What leaves your Mac
Nothing.
When it is off or fails
- Another app already owns the chord: the row says "Another app uses … — kept …" and the old chord stays.
- An action switched off: it is simply not registered.
- The meeting shortcut: the recording confirmation and the call prompt mention the chord only while it is actually registered.
- Restore Defaults: it returns all five chords and switches them back on.
- No Jira account: ⌃⌥J is not registered and its row is not listed; ⌘J, ⌘4 in Quick Find and the Daily Scrum keys do nothing. The stored chord comes back with Jira.
