Settings for meetings
How Settings → Meetings is organised: eight short pages that each answer one question, and the quick Recording sheet for the next meeting.
You do not have to open Settings to record a meeting, get a transcript and a summary: the defaults are chosen for your Mac. Settings → Meetings is there for when you want something different, and it asks what do you want? before it asks how should it work?
How it is organised
Settings → Meetings lists eight pages beside the page you are on. Each row shows what it is set to in one line, such as "During the meeting · Automatic", and the page's title above it reads "Settings / Meetings / Recording". In a narrow window one column shows at a time, with a back arrow.
| Page | What it decides |
|---|---|
| Recording | When the transcript is written, how closely it keeps up, subtitles and translation |
| Transcript quality | Which speech model writes it: Lighter, Recommended or Most accurate |
| Summaries | Where the notes are written and by which model |
| After recording | What happens once a recording ends, when that work runs, and whether you are told |
| Battery & heat | How live transcription spares the battery and keeps the Mac cool |
| Speakers | How names get onto the transcript's lines |
| Calls | What happens when a call starts and ends, and pictures of the call window |
| Storage & sharing | Where meetings and models are kept, and the team folder |
Three levels, nothing hidden
- The list tells you how each page is set without opening it.
- A page starts with the questions most people ask, one per row. Where there is a choice, one option is marked Recommended, worked out for this Mac.
- Advanced, at the bottom of a page, holds the expert options: models by name, the live model, the graphics chip instead of the Neural Engine. Nothing was removed; it moved down.
A row with an ⓘ shows a few sentences when you point at it, and Learn more opens the matching page here. Each page's footer links here too.
The Recording sheet and Settings
The quick Recording sheet is the top of the Recording page, close at hand before a meeting: three tiles for the transcript — Live, Afterwards or Record only — then Subtitles, Translate and Quality, two small notes on when the transcript will be ready and what happens on battery, and More in Settings… for everything else, such as Pace. The sheet and Settings change the same settings, so a change in one shows in the other.
A change applies to the next meeting; a meeting that is already recording keeps its settings. During a meeting you can still stop transcribing live, transcribe at the end instead or resume, from the menu bar or the meeting window. The recording carries on either way.
Other settings pages
The encrypted vault is in Settings → Privacy, summary servers and cloud models in Settings → Meetings → Summaries, dictation in Settings → Dictation. Menu bar and settings lists every page.
